Team Press Releases / Rebuilding the Grays
« on: October 02, 2018, 12:04:18 PM »
This season I've really gone all-in on the rebuild. Obviously it started over the last couple of seasons, but I decided in most cases to play young players who seem ready (or close) if it looks like they have a chance to be contributors later, instead of 30+ AAAA types or over-the-hill former stars.

I probably should have started this back in spring training, but here we are.

Godwin Says Goodbye to Baseball
Monday, April 12th, 2077
Bubba Godwin said he's made enough money in professional baseball, so it's time to move on.

"I did pretty well for myself, my bank account isn't hurting, maybe I'll become a manager or a team owner or something so I can make even more," he said, announcing this season would be his last. "I'm 37 years old, so I've still got some time to make something of the rest of my life."

Godwin is batting .286 with 1628 career base hits, including 136 doubles, 20 triples and 352 home runs with 974 RBIs and 829 runs scored. He has played in 1588 games, stolen 85 bases and compiled a .329 OBP.

from Binghamton of the NYSL.

Stick him in AAA for now, although something tells me he's going to be on the big club before too long.

Trading Market / Virginia trade block
« on: July 21, 2018, 06:04:01 AM »
Well, I've moved most of my guys with any value, figure I might as well list the last couple here. I'd trade anybody who's 28 or older. That said, I'm going to highlight the few who I think will be of most interest:

As always, the market is for picks and prospects. On the prospects side, if you're offering an infielder, I'll be more interested if he can play strong D. Outfielders I'm a bit more flexible.

Team Press Releases / Dinis Camanho hangs 'em up
« on: May 20, 2018, 06:46:13 PM »
Longtime Grays relief pitcher Dinis Camanho has retired at the age of 45 years old.

I traded for Camanho way back in 2056, seeing in him an extreme groundball pitcher with two very good pitches and one terrible one. I'd hoped that with a good infield defense behind him, he could make his way as a starter.

He never quite worked out as a starter, but he was a stalwart in our bullpen for many years. He made two all-star teams (1964 and 1965) and finished second in the Ramos voting in '65 with his 28 saves and 1.05 ERA. (Raul Reyna won it that year, with a similar ERA but 84 innings pitched to Camanho's 68.)

I gave up two picks for Camanho, and they turned into Andre Beauregard and Rafael Trevino. Beauregard was almost certainly the most valuable player of the three of them (Trevino only got a couple cups of coffee), but I think it's pretty cool that Camanho outlasted both of the guys picked with the picks from that trade - they both retired back in '72.

I’ve been kicking around in Catobase to see whether I could figure out a way to recover the players who were accidentally wiped off the ballot several years ago. Unfortunately I can’t figure out how to restore them.

What I propose is that we go ahead and have a big ballot that goes all season, and then I can put together a series of “veterans’ committee” ballots that we do in the forum to cover those guys who were accidentally skipped.
