tough double header coming up for me July 7th: a 1:05 home game, and a 7:05 away game vs. Utah.

May be a late start in Utah.

Death and pestilence abound in today's sim for the Scorps - we lost SP Pat Hall (3 months) and the man who'd have retaken his rotation spot SP/RP Juan Fernandez (12-13 months) who got squeezed out with our pickup of Gallegos
And we lost LF Benitez (2 weeks)

The injury to Fernandez is the saddest of them all. He's 43 years old this season and in 16 G (15 starts) had gone 8-4 with a 2.89 ERA. Given he'll be pushing 45 when he's healthy again, so I have to assume this is the end of the road for one of my favorite all-time sim stories. I've posted about him before, but this is his 23rd season in Utah. He was a 3rd round draft pick way back in 2050 out of Watkins Glen HS in New York. To put that into perspective - we did that draft in mid-November of 2012. Right after Obama won re-election - think about how long ago that was! He'll make it nearly 6 real-life years with our organization.

He started out as a so-so SP prospect in our heyday, often filling the role as the 5th starter. He was never amazing, but would win 13-16 games since we were good with an ERA around 4 or so. His best year was 2059, when we won the National Cup - he went 14-9, 3.44 ERA. He also went 3-1 in 5 post-season starts with a 0.92 WHIP and nearly 4:1 K:BB. Then at age 30 his performance dipped and we made him our longman/spot-starter and he was pretty bad - cratering out at 32 after going 3-5 with an ERA of 5.42 before becoming a solid reliever for a couple years.

Then, since we were bad anyhow in 2068 (we dealt guys, would lose 99 games), he filled a gap in the rotation and re-found his mojo. From that season on, his age-35 season, he started 262 games for us. He went 98-86 in that span with 25.6 WAR (about 3 per year). Pretty much at the beginning of every year since then, I'd think "I wonder if this is the year age catches up to him?", and it just didn't. Even this year, his ratings are bad - like really bad - but there he is, ERA under 3, leading the squad in Wins and eating up innings.

He'll retire as the Scorps All-Time leader in Wins (209), GS (509), and IP (3353). He's also 2nd in K's, 3rd in RWAR, 5th in CG and 3rd in SHO.

Kudos Juan!

That's talent!

Today's sim will be a little late... maybe 1 or 2-ish ET.

Wow, we just can't kick it into gear. We currently have NPBL's 6th best run differential, but hold the 3rd worst record in the GEL. 60 games left is a lot of baseball, and we're only 5 out of the Wild Card but with so many teams to leapfrog it might be tough. We are 12-18 in 1-run games and 10-11 in 2-run games.

Somehow my once last-place Freedom went on a 10-1 run and are now middle of the pack.

In a lost season, I'm trying out Alejandro Salazar as a two-way player. (There's now an option on players' individual strategy pages to be treated as two-way players.)

The results so far? 0-2, 6.85 in 23.2 IP as a starting pitcher (4 starts). 286/286/500 in 14 PA. So far he's only pitched and been a pinch hitter, although he's in the depth chart at 2B.

Just realized you can't see his pitching ratings on his player page. He's 6/7/4 over 7/7/6 talents. But at 26 (and he turns 27 in December) he's probably never going to reach those talents unfortunately.

Pennsylvania slugger Mike Turner only has 73 hits in 432 plate appearances this season.  34 of his 73 hits are home runs.
