With the first pick of the 2078 draft, the Virginia Grays select Steve Hull. Heís listed as a center fielder, but we believe he has the potential to play any position in the field.

Despite announcing his retirement partway through last season, it seems age-defying SP Juan Fernandez has had a change of heart. He'll be reporting to Spring Training this week with the club, just like he has for every season for the previous 28 years.

Thankfully for us in Virginia, Bubba Godwin did not have any similar change of heart. We let him play out his last season of .223/.267/.386 ball only because he promised he wouldn't show up again this year.

cant play catcher! also his CF will never be good...but yeah, lots of positional versatility.

NC has made Irving TX native Jason MacCrindle the #4 pick in this year's draft. The HS standout has plus-plus contact and power potential and will be making his professional debut in Benton County.

Hey guys, just a brief update here...

I've got something going on every night this week except Friday, which is not really a good night for drafting, so we're going to just keep drafting on the boards for the time being.

With Christmas early next week and a lot of people travelling (including me), we may not be able to get together for the live portion of the draft until the new year.

So, sit tight!

I'm just posting an update to say there is no update.  :)

Except that December 27th might be the earliest we can get together to wrap up the draft...

1. I can't believe I missed taking my second round pick. JFC. Would have taken MacCrindle. Crap.
2. I could have sworn Virginia took Dorian Gibbons in the third round. Because I was planning on taking Scott, and then, when my pick came up, I thought Scott was still available.. but I decided to take Rodriquez instead. and now I see Gibbons went to Illinois in round three, so ... so what the heck was I thinking? Why did I think Virginia had taken him. Weird.
3. Can you say "Wait till next year" when talking about the draft?
4. Crap. (Pardon my french.)

I had fouled up my list (since deleted) and it auto-picked Gibbons for me. But on my end it didnít appear to have gone further in the draft so I changed my pick (I have admin rights as a backup). Iím able to do this for anybody else if we have more draft issues (I remember having to pick a couple last year too).

I'm not thrilled with my 3rd round pick. I was in there making changes as Minnesota was still on the board (though I still had my list pick up) and was adding people to my list. Next thing I know, I had a new guy (though not necessarily the guy I was going to choose). Not a huge deal and I will live with it though I was definitely leaning towards Garland.

I feel like there must be some code of player traits where they play better or worse depending on the month.  For the past several seasons, my team starts out terribly, but finishes rather well.  This first half of ST, the team goes 3-9 and I just know we are in for the same slow start.

Well fellas, I'm not going to stand for it this year.  If you play well, you'll get more playing time.  I don't care who you are or what the scouts say your ratings are.  That may also mean that while you start the year with a lot of playing time, you could end the year in AAA (or vice versa).

Pennsylvania Storylines for 2078

25-year-old RP Bob Walker converting to starter...  11.57 ERA in two Spring Training starts  :o

Can Paco keep hitting?  Veteran outfielder Paco Alvarado hit .265 last year after hitting .215, .197, .208 and .207 the previous 4 seasons.

Zipper V Jesus...  22-year-old prospect Jesus Gallegos is challenging fellow 22-year-old Zipper Munoz for the starting 1B job.  Zipper hit .307/18/64 last year, so Jesus has his work cut out.

She liked it a lot...  We went to Meredith College, which is an all-girls school here in town.

She's going to check out NC State on February 13th.

My computer is acting up so we will sim a bit later today, if it gets too late we'll push tomorrow's sim to Thursday.  I'd like to still get three in this week.

Iíve been trying to carry Matthew Barrow in the rotation because he has the team captain personality type and I thought maybe it would help some of the young guys develop.

Anyway, the result has been what is one of the most realistic injuries killing a career scenario Iíve seen in OOTP:

03/12/2078   Injured (Strained back), day-to-day for 2 weeks.
04/10/2078   Injured (Back spasms), day-to-day for 1-2 weeks.
04/15/2078   Injured (Back spasms), day-to-day for 4 days.
04/21/2078   Injured (Back spasms), day-to-day for 1 day.
04/26/2078   Injured (Back spasms), day-to-day for 5 days.
05/08/2078   Injured (Back spasms), day-to-day for 1-2 weeks.

He also started on 5/3, the only game of the year that he didn't leave because of the back AFAICT (at least in the regular season).

That's super cool the game at least managed to injure the same part over and over

I've got a similar deal with former top pick Pat Hall, whose pitching arm has had issues literally from his fingers to his shoulder. Over 7 big-league seasons he's only averaged 17 starts per year, topping 20 just twice

06/08/2070   Injured (torn labrum (Shoulder)), out for 10 months.
02/14/2071   Suffered setback in recovery from injury, will miss another 2 months.
08/01/2071   Injured (shoulder subluxation), out for one week.
08/13/2072   Injured (back spasms), day-to-day for 1 day.
04/30/2073   Injured (mild oblique strain), day-to-day for 4 days.
05/28/2073   Injured (partially torn labrum), out for 2-3 months.
05/09/2074   Injured (rotator cuff strain), out for 8-9 weeks.
06/12/2074   Suffered setback in recovery from injury, will miss another 7 weeks.
03/11/2076   Injured (Mild shoulder inflammation), day-to-day for 5 days.
04/19/2076   Injured (Mild hamstring strain), day-to-day for one week.
04/25/2076   Injured (Sore ankle), day-to-day for 6 days.
05/07/2076   Injured (Sore thumb), day-to-day for 1 day.
05/23/2076   Injured (Back tightness), day-to-day for one week.
06/10/2076   Injured (Strained back), day-to-day for one week.
07/03/2076   Injured (Strained forearm), out for 3 months.
03/10/2077   Injured (Back tightness), day-to-day for one week.
03/16/2077   Injured (Strained back), out for 2-3 weeks.
04/20/2077   Injured (Partially torn UCL (elbow)), out for 7 months.
04/09/2078   Injured (Surgery to remove bone chips (elbow)), out for 5 months.

There was a last minute deal beteen Maryland and Utah that I didn't see because it came in while I was simming.  Because we've had so few trades recently, I'm going to allow it if there are no objections from the rest of the league.  Protest before the Friday sim or I'll process it.  You can PM me your protest if you wish to remain anonymous.

the Clippers suck so bad right now that I've decided to start experimenting with players being 2-way players...even went as far as taking my #1 pick from the last draft and going asking the poor 18-year old to not only switch positions from RF to 1B but also try his hand as a setup guy in the bullpen :p  this oughtta go well. LOL

anyone have any 2-way players that I can take a peak at and see how they are developing/performing?

Alejandro Salazar (http://npblbaseball.com/npbl/reports/news/html/players/player_7607.html) is a two-way player, but he's not that great at either. Bullpen arm, and bench 2B/OF.

Though in a cruel OOTP twist of fate, I deal my SS and the guy I wanted to call up but was wrapping up an injury went to "uncertain return". The bench utility guy in the bigs who would be next to play SS went down for a week with an injury. And then the leftover starting SS in AAA went down for a week with an injury. Then my starting SS in AA caught a cold and is day to day for 3 days.

Well, pitching may win playoff games, but it sure doesn't get you to the playoffs  :P
Top or near the top in nearly every pitching category (led by a lights out bullpen trio of Orozco, Estrada, and Salinas), but pretty much bottom or near the bottom in every offensive category results in a sub-.500 year and another year missing the playoffs.
Hopefully the young OF gels next year and provides some more pop and I find some bats for the IF.

Of course I deal Coleman and we still cling to life. 1 back (of 2 teams, and tied with 1) with 2 games to go. The other 3 teams all play teams that have clinched the post-season, and we play one of the few teams with a record worse than ours. So who knows? Maybe we can sneak in!

I'm not sure this is 100% accurate, but it's pretty close:

My 1st - 4th starters went 56-30 (.651)  - equivalent to winning 105 games in a season
My 5th starters (who I switched around looking for an answer) went a combined 3-16 (.158) - equivalent to winning 26 games in a season

I don't think I'll be trying a 5-man rotation in the postseason.   ;)

So here's something to think about:

Quote
Major League Baseball and the playersí union are near an agreement to expand active rosters by one to 26 starting in 2020 as part of a deal that would include a commitment to discuss larger economic issues after opening day this year.

As part of the deal, the active limit from Sept. 1 to the end of the season would be lowered from 40 to 28 beginning next year, people familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press. The people spoke on condition of anonymity because the agreement had not yet been finalized.

Should the NPBL follow the change?  I'd be for it.

28 seems very small for September rosters to me. But I'd be open to making some tweaks.

I don't know if OOTP can support roster rules more similar to how the NFL and NHL work (so in our case, maybe something like a 30-man roster with 25 active for any individual game. Or whatever the numbers worked out too.)

I'd be all for the 26-man, and while 28 is low (I'd prefer like 30-35) I'd live with it for the extra spot year round

Not an ideal start for Kansas... 0 runs in the first 2 games.  ???

Accidentally missed unchecking "Create and send results email" while importing... so.... that first e-mail you get can be ignored.

Wow! That's a heck of a drought... Maryland hadn't won since 2010!  Congrats!

For those curious, the longest time since their last championships are (in decending order):

Minnesota - Since 2034
Illinois - Since 2028
Michigan and Nova Scotia/Ohio - Since 2027
