Title: Let The Drafting Begin! (Discussion Thread)
Post by: Chappy on February 17, 2009, 05:12:24 AM
Hey guys!

The Draft Utility is good to go - http://www.npblbaseball.com/npbl/cgi-bin/ootpou.pl?page=draftPicks

If you don't remember your password, let me know.  The default is baseball, but if you changed it and forgot I can reset it for you.

The drafting begins with Ohio, Kansas, Rhode Island, Hawaii and Michigan.

Post picks in the official thread or use the utility (I recommend the utility).  The draft does not OFFICIALLY begin until the live draft starts - most likely 8pm est Thursday - but if you know who you want, go ahead and draft early.  Early draft picks are official and cannot be changed.

Wow.  What a hugely imbalanced draft class.

Wow.  What a hugely imbalanced draft class.

It immediately reminded me of the years I had top 2 picks 3 years in a row and there were never any pitchers even worth considering.

Yes, that is why Minnesota has a great offense and worthless pitching. Nearly every year we had a top draft pick there were no pitchers worth taking in the top 5-10 spots.

I remember a couple of nice prospects after I started picking late again.   >:(

With the several dry years we had, you can see there aren't as many great pitchers under the age of 30 in the league right now.

The NPBL might end up with more football scores if we continue this trend.

Last year was an exception, five of the first seven picks were pitchers.

as i recall that was more desperation for pitching than those were the best players.

I think there was some of both.  There were much better pitchers last year compared to what we've seen in most drafts in the past 10 years or so.  And organizations were dry of pitchers - so they reached a little bit.

It'll be interesting though.  These v9 drafts (both batters and pitchers) have players far from being developed.  How much up-and-down will we see as the players develop?

Ohio selects SS Miguel Carrasco with the first overall pick in this year's draft.  Updated in utility as well.

A lot, which has its good points and bad points.
